Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood in The West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" area. This West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a large area that extends from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace is frequently referenced, however her brief stay wasn't. Brugel lived in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. Her first ambition was to be an expert dancer. However, a growth increase caused her to surpass every dance partner she had. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. Once I was bigger than the size of my male companion and stopped dancing, I quit. Brugel was one of many former dancers who shifted to acting. Her teacher from high school was the one who pushed her in the right direction. Teacher who recommended she try to get a role for the school's annual show. She auditioned and was cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she earned her Master of Fine Arts at York University. Since then, she's appeared in over 60 productions both smaller and large. Most notable was when she landed Rita's role in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian on the season 1 actors of the series and seen only occasionally, was the only Canadian.
